Free Tools To Remotely Control Your Pc

There are many cases in which it is helpful to remotely connect to another person’s computer. For example if you work in computer tech support and are trying to resolve a customer’s computer issue over the phone, being able to see the customer’s monitor would be very helpful. Troubleshooting is greatly facilitated by remote connections to a computer’s desktop. Another case in which your remote connections can be helpful is when you are on vacation and want to check the status of your computer back home; in this scenario you can set up your computer at home with the connection and leave it on for the duration of your vacation; you can then access your computer from any part of the world using the internet.
Programs that enable users to remotely connect to other computers come in a wide variety, ranging from fancy paid ones to simple freeware programs. In today’s list which we have gathered, we cover 5 of the best freeware applications which let you remotely connect to a computer with ease and without spending a dime.

1. TweetMyPC

TweetMyPC is an amazingly innovative piece of freeware compatible with Windows operating systems. Once installed, you can associate the application with a Twitter account; the application will timely check for any Tweets on your account if any Tweet has some command in it, it will be executed on your PC. For security reasons, it would be best to create a new Twitter/Gmail account especially for this application.

2. LogMeInFree

LogMeInFree is a freeware program which lets you access a remote computer with your internet browser. Before downloading the application you setup a username and password (which will be used to access your computer) and then select the PC or Mac version to download. Stallone join Willis, Schwarzenegger and Jet Li

Want to see ENICE-champion-champion appeared in a movie? So, movie geeks besutan actor Sylvester Stallone is worth the wait. Quoted by the Associated Press yesterday, the actor who was behind the success of Rambo and Rocky movies is being in a big project with veteran took action actors. Actor Stallone practically invited heavyweight players? Two of them were Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film titled The Expendables it also brought several other well-known actor. For example, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, and Dolph Lundgren. They all will be involved in the film is about a team of mercenaries who traveled to South Africa on a mission to overthrow a dictator.
''Arnold (Schwarzenegger, Red), Bruce (Willis, Red), and I will work together for the first time,''Stallone said of the film scheduled to begin shooting this year. Perhaps''shooting lasted two weeks,''Stallone told reporters before the closure of Venice Film Festival, in Venice, Italy, yesterday. Stallone pleaded not easy to integrate the big star in a film. ''It seems impossible to put all their egos in the same room,''joked the actor who got 63 years of special award at the Venice. The Expendables, he continued, trying to restore the glory era of the film, in which all the visual effects can be operated via a computer with ease. Scenes filled with visual effects that will dominate the film genre.
''I want to make a movie that simply tells the men who do things like the 80's and 90's. We will rely on the physical scene more real and the story is not too bombastic,''he explained. In addition, he talked about the Rambo movie series of projects that immediately worked on the fifth. The film is called putting more science fiction elements and teknologi.Meski so, he admitted would not continue to get stuck in the genre of war films. ''This is more toward the film has an element of psychology of modern man against man primitive,''he added. Stallone is known as a great actor, also a successful screenwriter, expressing his desire to direct more films. However, he felt that desire should be done 20 years ago. He wanted to direct a movie that does not involve itself, but another actor or actress. In order for the film''chain that always involve me in it is lost,''he said

New cash for your old technology

By Mike Musgrove

Now that the gift-giving holidays have passed, 'tis inevitable that last year's now-obsolescent gadgets end up forgotten inside a closet or a desk drawer. Or worse still, in a trash can on the way to the local landfill.
But for folks looking to recoup a few dollars from their tech-buying habits, it doesn't have to be that way, thanks to a handful of online services, such as Gazelle (http://www.gazelle.com) and YouRenew.com, that offer to pay a few bucks for last year's iPod or BlackBerry. Log on, answer a few questions about the condition of your old digital camera, phone or music player, and you'll get an automatically generated cash offer, tendered as quickly as your browser window takes to refresh.
If you take the option to send that old gadget in, it's likely to be refurbished and resold on Amazon.com, Overstock.com or eBay. Both Gazelle and YouRenew offer free shipping and, in a gesture of environmental do-goodery, will take items even if they don't have monetary value, with a pledge to dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner.
For such services, this is one of the busy times of the year, because the consumer tech industry makes its biggest sales around the holidays. The last six weeks of the year account for up to 40 percent of a gadget's sales, said Stephen Baker, an industry analyst with research firm NPD. While that means a lot of kids will be getting Dad's old iPhone, it also means forced retirement for plenty of still-functional gadgets.

Kristina Kennedy, a spokeswoman for Boston-based Gazelle, said that her company is aiming to change the thought process of consumers, in a way that takes into account the bigger picture when buying a new device.
"We want the consumption of electronics to be more like buying a car," she said, pointing out that half of today's new-car purchases involve the trade-in of an older model. In order to expand, Gazelle has worked with retailers to launch buyback programs at bricks-and-mortar stores such Costco and with the online divisions of WalMart and Sears. "When you buy a laptop, you don't really consider what it will be worth in three years," Kennedy said. "We want consumers to start thinking about that."
Although a shopper could make a few more dollars by selling an old gadget on eBay, Kennedy said, Gazelle's customers use the service because they prefer an instant offer and don't want the hassle of dealing with auctions. Gazelle says it erases the data on all the devices it receives, which is not something that some consumers confidently know how to do with, for example, a cellphone.
Business is on the upswing for Gazelle, which was launched in 2006 under the name SecondRotation. This time last year, the site was taking in about 5,000 items a month, and this year that figure has tripled.
Bob Casey, one of two Yale students who launched YouRenew this year, says that his company's major task is to spread the word about the service. By Casey's figures, only about 10 percent of electronics are recycled properly, so there is plenty of room for growth just by getting college students and young professionals to clean out their desk drawers.
You may be wondering right about now, just what is that old iPod or BlackBerry worth?
Take a cutting-edge "fifth-generation" iPod from a few years ago; Apple introduced an 80-gigabyte version of the player in 2006 for a price of $349. On a recent afternoon, Gazelle offered $53 for the device, compared with a $20 bid from YouRenew. A newer BlackBerry device, the Pearl Flip 8220, was released last year and won offers of $73 at YouRenew and $40 at Gazelle. Both services, naturally, reserve the right to adjust their offer if a device turns out to be in worse shape than advertised.
To be sure, selling on eBay is a way to squeeze a few more dollars out of last year's gadget. As I write this, an eBay auction with that same iPod is coming to an end with a closing price of $70. As for that BlackBerry, the going rate is in the neighborhood of $100.
Baker said he's skeptical about the ability of buyback sites to break in to a mainstream consumer audience, because of the rate at which computers and gadgets depreciate. After all, $53 might not seem like a lot of money for what used to be a $349 device. "Tech products lose their value very rapidly," he said. "The people who want to get rid of those things want to get back a lot more than they're actually worth."
Indeed, it's the fast-moving early adopters who tend to get the most money out of such a site. D.C. resident Omar Williams used YouRenew to trade in his old iPhone when he traded up for a brand-new "3G S" iPhone this year. YouRenew sent him a check for $250 for the old phone, which Williams figured to be a "pretty good chunk of change" that helped pay for the new device.
And it's not just about the money, some customers say.
Georgetown student Leslie Hotchkiss recently got $21 for her old graphing calculator, a gadget she had to buy for about $90 to use in a high school class. College students don't have a lot of space or a lot of money, she pointed out. They also tend to care about the environment. YouRenew fits in pretty well with those values.
"I was surprised I could even get any money for it, it was so old," she said, but mainly she was glad to know the thing didn't end up in a landfill. Now she's got her eye on unloading a pesky printer that's starting to act up.

Best and worst of 2009: Internet finds

Best

1. Neda Proof that memes can be meaningful, the video and Twitter tributes to a young Iranian woman's death galvanized a movement -- online and in real life.

2. "Total Eclipse of the Heart": Literal Video Version If you're not giggling by the falsetto lyrics "Spin around, Ninjas!" then the Internet is possibly not meant for you.
3. Michael Jackson tribute dances From mass "Beat It" re-creations to Filipino inmates' stirring rendition of "I'll Be There," the late King of Pop would have been proud.
4. "United Breaks Guitars" The twangy ditty prompted by incompetent baggage handling became the anthem that disgruntled travelers everywhere wished they'd written.
5. "I'mma let you finish . . . " Turns out, inserting Kanye West's VMA outburst into any Web site or existing video made for really good Internet.
6. "Tiger Woods Voicemail Slow Jam Remix" Arriving at the peak of Tiger infidelity watch, this smoove music video managed to mock both the story and our obsession with it.
7. Hitler's "Downfall" Who knew that this stern German film was actually a comedy? This meme -- making the character of Hitler a buffoon by dubbing his dialogue with sputtering reactions to current events -- began in 2008, but reached its full absurd, inappropriate glory early this year.
8. All the Single Babies We thought nothing could top last year's infectious videos of men dancing to Beyoncé's hit. Then the babies came. Look at dose chubby widdle wegs.
9. The Three Wolf Moon Short Sleeve Tee This ridonkulously hokey T-shirt became one of Amazon's best-selling items, thanks to fervent user reviews such as the one declaring it spun by Zeus "from his own chest hair."
10. "Guy Catches Laptop With His Butt" A cheeky (but G-rated!) response to last year's "Guy Catches Glasses With Face," this one features a spandexed dude doing, uh, what the title says in increasingly elaborate scenarios. Fake? Probly. But hilarious and winkingly self-referential.
Worst

"JK Wedding Entrance Dance" 33 million YouTube viewers might disagree, but something as stunty as a choreographed wedding march should have been either a whole lot better or a whole lot worse.

"Disneyland Musical Marriage Proposal" This elaborately choreographed proposal could have been like the truly great Improv Everywhere videos ("The Sound of Music" in a train station!), but instead drowned in a whirlpool of cheese.
"David After Dentist" Ultimately, the comedic value didn't win out over the bad parenting. Post-oral surgery, 7-year-old David turns to his dad's camera and loopily asks, "Is this real life? Why is this happening to me?" Indeed, David. Indeed.

Help File: Recycling old computers, TVs and other electronic items

Q: I understand that I'm not supposed to leave my old computer or TV out with the trash. How should I get rid of it?
A: You understand correctly: Most old electronics contain toxic materials such as lead, mercury and cadmium. Fortunately, your options for recycling old gadgets have improved since last year.
First try selling the old hardware or giving it away at a site such as Freecycle (http://freecycle.org), bearing in mind that cathode-ray-tube televisions may have zero appeal even when free to any taker. (Remember to wipe your old data from a computer; see last week's column for help with that.) You can also try selling smaller devices to sites such as Gazelle (http://gazelle.com), YouRenew.com and BuyMyTronics.com.
Older computers can find a second career after a tune-up: Local computer groups such as the Capital PC User Group (http://reboot.cpcug.org) and Washington Apple Pi (http://wap.org/about/donations) and larger nonprofits such as the National Cristina Foundation (http://cristina.org) refurbish donated machines and pass them on to local charities, schools and other worthy recipients.

For recycling options, check with your computer's manufacturer: Firms such as Apple (http://apple.com/environment), Dell (http://dell.com/recycle) and HP (http://hp.com/recycle) will recycle old hardware free under some conditions. You can also drop off computers and peripherals for recycling at a Staples store; a $10 fee applies to non-Dell PCs, monitors and printers. Best Buy stores (http://bestbuy.com/recycle) charge $10 for recycling laptops, monitors and smaller TVs but offer a $10 store gift card in return, while other gadgets are free to drop off.
For other reuse and recycling options, see the Consumer Electronics Association's myGreenElectronics (http://mygreenelectronics.org) and the Electronics TakeBack Coalition (http://electronicstakeback.com); the latter requires recyclers to pledge not to ship "e-waste" to developing countries and to abide by additional environmental standards.

Shrek Forever After

Synopsis & Summary

Synopsis

A domesticated Shrek hatches a plan to recapture his mojo and discovers what life in Far Far Away land would have been like had he never existed in this final chapter of the popular animated film series. There used to be a time when the villagers would run in terror at the mere mention of the name Shrek, but these days the big green ogre is married to Princess Fiona and raising triplets. Maintaining your fierce public persona is no simple task when you're juggling infants and changing diapers, so when Shrek realizes that nobody is afraid of him anymore he recruits mischief-maker Rumpelstiltskin to restore his once-mighty roar. Unfortunately for Shrek, that plan hits an unexpected hitch. As a result, the morose monster takes a trip into an alternate-universe Far Far Away land where there is no Shrek, and Rumpelstiltskin reigns. There, Donkey spends his days hauling carts, and a portly Puss in Boots prefers lounging to swashbuckling. Perhaps with a little extra effort, Shrek will be able to regain his status as top ogre in town and still have his happily ever after, too. - Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

3-D TV, Apple tablet, Google phone among next-generation devices on the way

By Frank Ahrens
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, January 6, 2010

The 21st century may finally be starting, one decade late.

A raft of sci-fi-inspired gadgets and technologies are being announced this month, promising a future of 3-D television, super-smart phones and next-generation electronic tablets that wrap the features of a laptop and a digital book into one wafer-thin package.

If you think you've heard all this before, well, you have. Moviegoers were donning 3-D glasses in the 1950s, and legions of gee-whiz devices have come and gone, with little discernible improvement of the human condition.

What makes this month notable is the sheer number of pitches being shouted by tech and media giants ranging from Apple to Google to Sony to Discovery Communications, in the hope that recession-weary Americans are ready to start spending their discretionary income again. These corporate goliaths maintain large cash balances, enabling them to spend money on product development during downturns while smaller rivals struggle to stay afloat.

The buzz kicked off Tuesday with the rollout of Google's Nexus One smartphone, which marks the search-engine giant's first foray into hardware and represents a broadside aimed at Apple's popular iPhone.

A flurry of announcements is coming before the Thursday kickoff of the annual Consumer Electronics Show, the tech industry's annual bacchanalia of personal-jet-pack futurism and gadget fetishization. If these devices and technologies pan out, they may represent significant steps forward, rather than just refinements of existing technology.

Also on Tuesday, broadcasting giants ESPN and Discovery each said they will launch 3-D television networks; ESPN's this year, Discovery's in 2011. To create the unnamed 3-D channel, Silver Spring's Discovery is forming a joint venture with 3-D theater pioneer Imax and Sony, which makes cameras that film in 3-D.

Like "Avatar," the blockbuster film currently in theaters, programming on these two new channels would require special glasses to achieve the you-are-there benefit of 3-D.

Special glasses? To watch TV at home? Really?

"Consumers seem quite willing to put on glasses in a movie theater," Imax chief executive Richard Gelfond said in a conference call Tuesday. "We're going to create something compelling for consumers, and they're going to want to put on glasses."

Sony chief executive Howard Stringer envisioned 3-D TV without the need for glasses "in three to five years."

Set makers, such as Sony, hope 3-D programming will drive demand for new televisions in the same way that high-definition broadcasts pushed consumers to junk their old analog TVs. South Korea's LG Electronics, the world's second-biggest TV maker, said last month that it hopes to sell 400,000 3-D TVs this year and 3.4 million next year. Any manufacturer's 3-D set is likely to cost at least $3,000.
